2017 Season

After a highly successful season in 2016, Bowral Blacks are already preparing for 2017, with pre-season training commencing for seniors in mid-January and juniors in February.

The Club is committed to the Illawarra district competition in 2017 and to its place in NSW Country Rugby. We have a proud tradition in country rugby which has been ongoing for 40+ years and we uphold the unique values that country rugby bring to a regional centre such as the Highlands.

Blacks will be submitting teams in U7, U8, U9, U10, U11, U12, U13, Junior 2nd XV (U14 and U15), Junior 1st XV (U16 and U17), Colts (U18 and U19), and seniors. In the seniors we expect to field a 1st and 2nd grade team next year, and possibly a 3rd grade team.

As part of the Illawarra district, Blacks players will be eligible for selection in representative teams at an Illawarra and NSW Country level, and then at NSW State level. Illawarra representative teams will be competing at the NSW Country championships in May 2017 and the NSW State Championships in June 2017. Illawarra teams will also be touring New Zealand (U13) in April and Japan (U16) in September.

The Club is now calling on all players interested in joining Bowral Blacks next year. Junior players (U7 to U17) should email Ross Webster at ross.webster@bowralrugby.com.au. Colts (U18 and U19) and seniors should email Peter Burt at peter.burt@bowralrugby.com.au.

The Club is also calling for all coaches interested in being part of the Blacks coaching team to submit their applications to the Club Coach, Val Tyson, at val.tyson@bowralrugby.com.au.

Interested coaches should apply in writing and include a resume and/or a written history of experience, including accreditation level and status. Applications for seniors will close at COB on Monday 19th December 2016, and Juniors on Monday 16th January 2017.

“We are excited about the 2017 season. For the first time in several years, participation numbers in rugby are up across the country, and we’re looking forward to a great season next year,” said Mark Freund, President Bowral Blacks Rugby Club.
