With its recent return to the Olympics, rugby 7’s is now one of the fastest growing sports in the world. In particular the Australian Women’s team gold medal at Rio is inspiring girls and women across the country to take up rugby 7s, and this is being seen at the Southern Highlands 7s where women’s and girls entries have almost doubled to 26 teams.
This year the Southern Highlands 7s was fortunate to welcome four Olympic rugby 7s champions to the tournament Charlotte Caslick, a key member of the gold medal winning Australian Women’s Rugby 7s team, as well as Olympic champions Jesse Parahi, Lewis Holland and Emma Tonegato attended the tournament in partnership with Empower Rugby for girls.
Charlotte represents Australia in 7s rugby which triumphantly returned to the Olympic arena. The Australian women’s rugby 7s team won a gold medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
