Last Sunday (April 3rd), the Bowral Blacks U8s were lucky enough to be invited to play a curtain raiser to the Waratahs V Rebels match at Allianz Stadium. Needless to say we were all pretty excited about the event especially when, for most of the boys, it was their first ever game of full contact rugby.
Our game was against a somewhat familiar foe in the Tech Waratahs and was a great occasion for both teams. With the sun out and an electric atmosphere our boys rose to the occasion and played with great spirit and enthusiasm. Even though we had only a few training sessions leading into the game their approach to the tackle contest was fantastic. There was a willingness to engage in the contact and on numerous occasions we were making effective tackles. In attack we had a number of individuals who put their hand up and showed some very strong running, resulting in some great tries. The absolute highlight for the players was watching the replays of their own tries up on the big screen!
For the U8s team it was a convincing victory over Tech and a fantastic afternoon all round. Thanks to all of the families that travelled up for the game and to the NSW Waratahs for giving us such a great opportunity.
