Match Report for all grades on Saturday 19th July – Ben Hindmarsh.
In what can only be described as a tough day for Bowral Rugby. Those that were available showed the sort of commitment that the rest of the club can aspire to.
In the Colts game, Bowral gave it everything and never took a back step. Although having 2 of Bowral’s more dominant Colts players still out injured and a couple of other no shows, they were still very competitive. I don’t think the points on the board were a real indication of talent Bowral has available but a lack of fitness and cohesion were the major factors for the loss.
In seconds many of the colts and a few regular 1st graders gelled for an enjoyable match, although never going to get the win, Bowral did string some good phases together only to be held up over the line. Again with a put together side a strong showing was displayed with a stand out mention to 5/8 coach Pete who may need a bit of his own chiro work to get him back on the paddock for this week.
1st was again a new look side with youth and experience as well as everything in between. Gallant in defeat, committed to the end, it was unfortunately our worst performance of the year. This was not a reflection of the players that were there but more to do with the fact that there were only 2 backs in the back line and the rest were forwards filling bravely in and leaving themselves wide open for plenty of sledging on the bus trip home. Jesse Elliott had a very strong game and is developing very well into a player of the future. Michael Bach and the Strode Brothers also performed well, all playing out of their regular positions.
I believe that with only 4 games left in the season and less for the colts (except for semis) it will be a real shame for Bowral to let slip what has been a solid year of development so far. The injury toll is horrific but this is when those who are able need to step up and take the opportunities rather than go missing and leave a heavy burden on those that are there week in & week out.
With a home game and 2 grades of football this week, followed by our second last bus trip for the year we then have 2 weeks off so make the effort to complete something that we all started back in January. If you can’t get there, firstly your soft and secondly let someone know so we can organise the teams before the Saturday.
