The senior’s first trial matches were held on Saturday 15th March at Eridge Park against the Brothers Rugby Club from Sydney.
This was the first opportunity for the new coaching staff to see how the increasing senior numbers would go in a competitive match.
The coaches have been working hard to develop the skills and fitness of the players and what was clear from the matches played on Saturday is that the pre-season training has paid off, with improvements across the board in the senior grades. The improved performance in both attack and defence were obvious and the overall structure has improved.
There is some way to go in the development of our senior teams, but what is very clear is that we are certainly heading in the right direction and the addition of some new talent has definitely helped steady the teams and brought some additional experience.
It was great to see the increase in numbers, particularly with the Colts team. The colts are going to be a team to watch this year with the addition of some strong players to bolster what was already a quality Colts team from last year. Under the guidance of a capable and experienced coach in Brendan Fannin (Zip) they are going to play some exciting rugby this year.
Thanks to all the people who organised the trials for last Saturday and to those who helped out on the day. Our thanks also to the Brothers Rugby Club for making the trip down to play a competitive day of Rugby played in very good spirits. We aim to play against them in pre-season trials on an annual basis and look forward to more of the same next year.
