The Bowral U18’s continued their successful march to the finals with a comprehensive win over Manly today at Eridge Park. The final score was 29-5. This result further cements Bowral’s progress towards the finals with 2 rounds left to play!
Try scorers were Darcy Cotton, Josh Dick, Cheyenne Martin, Ruben Vermaak and Baden Stewart. The first half was as a fairly even contest with the Blacks going into the break with a 12-5 lead. The game hung in the balance but the locals came out after the restart with a new level of intensity. This lead to 3 unanswered tries being scored and the Black’s defence holding tight when Manly had possession. Some excellent cover defence was shown by Charlie Machado and Max Beddow. The forwards laid an solid platform for the backs with Nick Neculman, Lachlan Frean, Tye Deku and Max Hanitelli making impactful contributions.
Next week Bowral plays Hunters Hill/Mosman at Boronia Park in Sydney followed by Gordon at Gordon on the 21st August which is the penultimate round of the competition. This is Bowral’s inaugural year in the Sydney competition which is widely recognised as the best club competition in Australia. Bowral is being recognised as a nursery for up and coming rugby players and passion and commitment shown by the players and their families has become clearly evident at Eridge Park. Bowral is well and truly in the hunt for a finals berth with this result leading to the defeat of the fourth placed Manly side. Bowral was ranked 6th before the game.
