What a great weekend was had. The older players from the Blacks playing a Golden Oldies game under the revised laws…….and thank heavens for that too.
The Mudgee hospitality, captained by former Bowral boy, Rod (Ned) Kelly was outstanding! The game was played in the traditional spirit and was loads of fun, and for those younger, older players, a pretty physical hit out. This Wilted Tulip was allowed to run 10 metres with the ball, untouched. (because of my age). Even that was tiring!
The score, even though the official result is 18 all, was 3 tries to nil to the Blackies. And jolly good running rugby tries they were too.
Surprisingly, but remaining in the right spirit, the rucks and mauls were quite vigorous, and players were a bit muscle sore the next day.
It was great to have our current Head Coach, Gene (Pockets) Fairbanks, travel with us, and he played the full 50 minutes with loads of skill and organisation.
Five ladies travelled with us, and were most welcomed and thorughly enjoyed themselves for the week end. I will take this opportunity to thank the Wilted Tulips main sponsor, Pickles Auction Group, and former Blackie Nick Johnson the very generous support these last two years. and we hope this can continue. Also, thanks must go to Heather Byrne and Bowral Tax for providing the team dress shirt.
It was decided that 2018 would include another home and away fixture with Mudgee, plus two other games throughout the year.
